About
Hi and welcome to Stable Planet!
I’m Dr. Poppy Harding and I am an environmental scientist and lecturer working on understanding how our planet responds to climatic forcing, and like many of you reading this, I am also a horse lover, rider and owner.
My science background (read more here) has driven my interest in how we can change our lifestyles to live more sustainably and reduce our impact on the planet. Stable Planet has been born out of a desire to explore ways that I can reduce the impact of being a horse owner on the earth. Here I will be sharing the journey I am on, to manage me and my horses, Ricky and Patch (and their friend Bramble), lives in a more eco-friendly way, alongside exploring the science around human impacts on the planet and ways you and your horse can become more sustainable too.
Meet the rest of the team
Prof. Simon Blockley
Simon is Poppy’s husband and is also a scientist. His work looks at interactions between humans and climate change over different timescales. He is currently a Professor of Quaternary Science at Royal Holloway, University of London.
He is the horses favourite person to find as he usually has treats.
Hannah Harding
Hannah is Poppy’s sister and grew up hacking out around the countryside alongside her. Hannah particularly enjoys dressage and has also illustrated a series of children’s novel based around horses.
Hannah’s always a calm pair of hands.
Sarah Harding
Sarah is mum to Poppy and Hannah and an all round Eco supporter. She is often seen helping with the horses and stable management, having ridden since she was a child.
She’s the essential horsey mum!
